There have been and are many people in Newbold who have the name Statham or who are related to that name and we are trying to trace and document any who may be part of the large Statham clan.
If you are perhaps one of those individuals or are aware of others then do let us know - contact us at nvparchive@gmail.com - or use the contact form on the contacts page of the website.
We have collected photographs of the coronation day to record how it was celebrated in our area.
Where were you, what did you do?
Let us know and we can add your photos or accounts to our own history of Coronation Day in the village.

Newbold Verdon's links with the Mining Industry
We know that in 1901 there were140men from the area working in local mines: the pits of Nailstone, Bagworth and Desford, all within walking and cycling distance. We also know that coalmining continued to be the primary occupation for most local men until after the World War 2.
In Autumn 2024 we will be collecting stories of what it was like working at the pits, whether underground or on the surface. We’re also interested in hearing from anyone whose life was impacted by pit workers: the mothers, fathers, wives, children and grandchildren of the men, and women, working at the Pit.
