THE OBJECTIVES OF THE ARCHIVE

To facilitate and encourage the collection and archiving of Newbold Verdon and surrounding area heritage by welcoming contributions relevant to Newbold Verdon from anyone who has documents, artefacts, photographs, memories or information to add to the Archive collection.

To catalogue and digitise all such archives as received or loaned to The Archive and to preserve and store all such archives within the archive room of Newbold Verdon Library.

To promote and encourage a wider audience and understanding of The Archive and its archives through the development of a blog within the existing library website.

To research the History of Newbold Verdon and its environs and to encourage Archive members and the local community to carry out their own research into their historic past.

To involve the local community in activities in order to learn more about their local Heritage through events, talks and any other publicity laid on by The Archive.

To encourage active participation within The Archive in order to continue the longevity of the Newbold Verdon Archives for future generations.

The Archive is run by a group of volunteers,  It started in Mid 2022 following the gift of many documents detailing village life from the present day back to the 1700's. This is an ongoing project as more documents and oral recollections are received and catalogued.

As a not-for-profit organisation, we rely on funding and voluntary donations to keep our history and heritage alive.

We are a small group of volunteers but we are happy to help with people's research where we can. We were able to help someone with connections to the village who wanted to know more about her family that had lived here and she was very grateful:

"I have spent most of this morning browsing among the reams of information you have gleaned. It has opened up a whole world of my ancestry and answered so many queries. You are a magician, and fantastic explorer of records with such delightful results.

Your amazing research has brought my father’s side of my family tree into reality, it gives me a sort of fuzzy feeling inside. My sons and their offspring are equally excited. My (deceased) brother’s family and grandchildren are also fascinated. So your amazing work has gone into many homes. Comments keep me searching for where they got items from that they’ve found. Many thanks for your generous efforts."

We also helped another family who were looking for information to help their research into the local area and they appreciated our help:

"Our interaction with the Newbold Verdon Parish Archive has been a very positive experience with information freely given and a desire to help expressed at all times. Everyone involved has been willing to source an answer to our query and then go beyond that to supply other information that has really enabled us to learn more about our ancestors and their lives. Thank you."
